- Hypertext 2014 - Good for HCI, Social Network Analysis, and Linking in General
25th ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media, 1–4 Sep 2014, Santiago, Chile. So I’m off to Chile in a couple of months for the ‘25th ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media, 1–4 Sep 2014, Santiago, Chile’. I don’t have a paper accepted, but attending hypertext is still a great idea especially if you’re interested in practical human factors and practical HCI. It’s strange but as you will see from my ‘HCI in15 papers’ summary there is a lot of hypertext overlap with the HCI/CHI community.

You may not believe it, but ACM Hypertext and Social Media conference maybe just he place your your HCI and/or Accessibility work. With average downloads per article running at 384 and average citations per article at 6.87 (according to ACM bibliometrics) this 100 person conference is comparable to CHI. So, now we’ve established it’s a good conference - what kind of work is there for the errant HCI’er? Well a quick look at the schedule should tell you, but lets look at the award candidates for the two awards given at Hypertext.
- ACM Author-Izer
The I think you will agree there are many problems with both the open access and closed access models of academic publishing. The closed access model forces the reader to pay (often within the region of US$25) per article, while the open model forces the author to pay (often within the region of US$1500) per article. The ACM seems to have found an excellent middle ground with their new Author-Izer service.
